Well, we have The Hitchhiker’s Guide to the Galaxy : A Novel (Hardcover) and also “The Ultimate Hitchhiker’s Guide to the Galaxy (Paperback)” the so called 5 novels in one outraged Novel, includes “The Hitchhicker’s Guide to the Galaxy” , “The Restaurante at the End of the Universe”, “Life, the Universe and Everything”, “So long and thanks for all the Fish”, “Young Zaphod Plays it” and “Mostly Harmless”

but DON’T PANIC start with the first novel and do get the BBC DVDs from the old series

Another great nonsense is “The Deeper Meaning of Liff” but get to know the original nonsense first.

Personally I really hated the movie; maybe hated is too strong but after having heard the radio sessions, then seen the old tv series, and then watch the book or even the series turned into a blockbuster made me wanna kill someone during the whole movie.
I had a review on it but can’t seem to find it right now.

Well, I just bought the 5 individual books (the one’s that Spell ADAMS on the side ) but I think there’s a big one with everything in it, and it’s hardcover … it really depends on you I liked the individual ones, easier to take on the bus

Ok ok… I’ll buy the book.

I was really disappointed because the opinions I heard about the book were so good that I really couldn’t believe the (movie) story was that weak. Do you guys recommend any edition in special? (except the Movie Special right?)

And if you really want to “see” something, not as bad as the movie, get the 6 BBC episodes, available on DVD over there at Fnac. But please read the book first!

PS: when one read a book, one visualise the characters in his own way. What is funny is that everyone tends to create a visual image of Arthur which gets to be exactly as the actor doing it in the BBC series. It just happens with Arthur, not with the other three characters – the girl, well, everyone has their own girl’s dream, then Ford is an alien, so you imagine different things, and, well, the other is impossible to imagine, right

PS2: in the series, the guy really has two heads! Well worth seeing it, and seeing the making of the head extra.

I couldn’t agree more with Bruno, I too saw the movie this Sunday (hey, one more coincidence, we both got to P* today ) but I had read all the books and I left with a terrible gap inside for all that I wanted to see but had nothing of (or mere glimpses, like the Restaurant at the end of the universe ) … anyway, my advice, DON’T PANIC, DON’T BUY THE MOVIE “SPECIAL” BOOK (it’s as incomplete as the movie itself) and go straight to buy & read the famous trilogy of five … it’s an experience well worth living

Advice: see this movie as a trailer to the book. Like any trailler, the “story” doesn’t make sense, the characters have no personality, and there is no time to explain the “Towel thing”. A ‘x’ seconds traiiler is a small representation of the 1h30 movie, and in this case the 1h30 movie is a small representation the 5 1 books.

I also think that this “trailler” isn’t as good as it could be, but that doesn’t mean, by any chance, that the book should not be read.

Read it, and the you’ll understand why it’s completely impossible to make a movie out of it.
