Nintendo best kept secret…

Most of us know the Super Mario Bros theme as the “Super Mario theme” 🙂 but actually the music has a name and, shockingly, LYRICS! The song is called “Go Go Mario” and you can see it here being played by the Nintendo Band.

If you are in a mood for karaoke, here’re the tranlated lyrics:

Go Go Mario

Today, full of energy, Mario is still running, running
Go save Princess Peach! Go!
Today, full of energy, Mario runs
Today, full of energy, jumping!
Today, full of energy, searching for coins
Today, keep going, Mario!

Get a mushroom – it’s Super Mario!
Get a flower – it’s Fire Mario!

Goomba! Troopa! Buzzy Beetle! Beat them all!
Mario is always full of energy and strong!

[Spoken] The only one who can reverse the spell that has captured the Mushroom People is Princess Peach. But Princess Peach is hidden underground, in a far-off castle. Ah, the days of peace… if we could once more return to those days… to save Princess Peach and bring peace back to the Mushroom Kingdom, that is why Mario is on his journey today.

Today, full of energy, Mario is still running, running
Go and beat the Koopa tribe, go!
Today, full of energy, Mario runs
Today, full of energy, jumping!
Today, full of energy, searching for coins
Today, keep going, Mario!

Get a star – become invincible!
Quickly, go save Princess Peach!

Lakitu! Blooper! Cheep Cheep! Beat them all!
Mario is always full of energy and strong!

Today, full of energy, Mario is still running, running
He’s made it to the castle and gets fireworks!
Lightly sidestepping the Hammer Bros.
Show the last of your power, Mario!
It’s been a long journey but it’s nearly at an end
You’ve done it, you’ve done it! You’ve defeated Bowser!

Princess Peach says “Thank you”
Mario’s got a great big heart!

Mario’s adventure is over for now, but
Mario’s dream lives forever…

It’s the iPhone!… No, wait! It’s the Google Phone!

Rumor addicts really need their daily fix. Now that the mother of all rumors has been out (aka the iPhone), a new substitute was in demand. Presenting the Google Phone.

First we get some guy on a forum that even posts a photo of the device (probably photoshoped) along with the some specs.

“The Google Phone brings the power of the internet in your pocket, in a simple and intuitive device. It combines the traditional voice and SMS capabilities of phones with all the exciting Google services from the PC such as Search, Gmail, Maps, Blogger…

The Google Phone, designed by Samsung, is a very thing and stylish handset with a large screen and a QWERTY keypad so that it provides a real internet experience.”

Yesterday Engadget came up with sort of a confirmation from a Google exec (which by the way is on Spainish division), saying that actually it exists and it’s just another product among another 17 R&D projects… I can hear the rumor mongers starting their photoshops…

Gaming 3.0

Nowadays it seems to be a trend to attribute versions to everything. Web 2.0 is probably the most well known case, but now Sony’s Phil Harrison seem to have coined the term with his presentation at GDC.

Game 1.0, as he explained, was the generation of home consoles (like the NES, Megadrive, and PlayStation) systems where the game experience was offered on a disc or cartridge and without any sort of network connectivity.

Game 2.0 was defined by systems like the PlayStation 2, Xbox and 90s PC where the game experience and content was largely static, though the systems were connected through the Internet allowing a multiplayer playing experience.

Game 3.0 is mainly defined and influenced by the of Web 2.0 and all the community and social movement as well as the PlayStation 3, Wii and Xbox 360. This are systems are not only connected but where creating experiences are created for themselves and for each other.

Two excellent examples of Gaming 3.0 applications are the upcoming service from Sony called Home and Media Molecule‘s Little Big Planet.

R2-D2! Where are you?

R2D2

It was recently announced at CES07 by Nikko (best known for its remote-controlled cars who doesn’t remember the Nikko Turbo Panther?), a DVD projection system and a wireless networked Webcam, both based on our old friend R2-D2.

The R2-D2 Projector is a 50-cm-tall 480p projector and it features built-in speakers, an iPod dock, a memory card slot and an FM transmitter to broadcast audio around your place all this in a fully motorized version of R2-D2. It comes with a Millenium Falcon-shaped remote control, that controls not only the media features but also the projector with it’s three motorized wheeled legs with built-in safety sensors, which prevents R2-D2 from bumping into the furniture. The guys at Nikko did a great job in what concerns aspect, the unit it’s almost a carbon-copy of the real droid model and it sounds just like it, with 11 different sound effects randomly playing when it’s in motion.

The R2-D2 Webcam comes with a Luke Skywalker lightsaber-shaped USB handset for VoIP communications (read Skype), full with lights and sounds. The lightsaber remote also controls the motions of the motorized wireless R2-D2 1,3 megapixels webcam, in option you can also control the unit by software in a pc.

Now for the painful part: Not available until July in the USA, the R2-D2 DVD Projector will retail for $2,500 and the R2-D2 Webcam with the lightsaber USB handset will cost about $350 (no prevision for Europe). I’m tying to believe that someday this items will be available in Europe, until then let me dream…

10.4.9 woes

It seems that after 10.4.9 update it is necessary to hold down the media eject key, you can’t just tap it as before. You need to hold it down for about 1 second, this also works for [Ctrl][Media Eject] shutdown.
