Opera 9 Final

Opera 9 is finally out!

I’ve been following the beta for some time and I praise the work they‘ve been doing. With a little more support from a strong community, Opera could be the next “Firefox”.

  • I’ve used Opera for some time before turning into Firefox (which I started using in version 0.7, I think…) and I always found it to be a very nice browser.

Version 9 beta was already a very polished version, and for many users may be a good replacement for Firefox, but I still miss Firefox’s customization capabilities. I didn’t like widgets that much, either.

I don’t believe Opera can be the next Firefox, because there’s simply no strong reason to change. Firefox appeared when people were really dissatisfied with IE, so there was in fact space for another browser (back then, Opera had to many compatibilities issues and was a bit too “heavy”). I believe Firefox caught most IE unsatisfied users. For those who are still with Microsoft’s browser, IE7 will probably be the choice.
