Help, I Want a Wiki!

I need a wiki, the question is: which one?

I’ve googled it and there’s plenty of stuff out there, but I want something that runs on well on PHP/MySQL and fully customizable.

Wetpaint looks very good but I want to host the wiki on my server, so any advice is welcomed.

Thanks!

  • I’ve been using Dokuwiki for a while now, and it is nice.

    And if you do want to use MySQL as a backend (the default is just plain old text files) I think the latest version supports it too.

    Why don’t you try MediaWiki, the engine behind wikipedia? All php MySQL. Give it a try:)

  • If you want PHP MySQL I just have two recommendations for you:
    1) For your own sake, run away from tikiwiki;
    2) If you’re into having nice features, take a look on MediaWiki…

  • I’d go with Carlos and give Dokuwiki a try. I’ve been using it for a long time now and it is a very fast and effective wiki, yet powerful. You can set ACL lists (pardon the redundancy) and a lot more.

  • Yes, Dokuwiki and Media Wiki are two good wikis, with several nice features, and almost no problems. For SHiFT conference will use Dokuwiki because it’s simple, easy and partical.
    Beside these 2, you can take a look at another wiki, almost unkwown, called WackoWiki (http://wackowiki.com/WackoWiki). I have a demo installation of WackoWiki at http://www.lisbonlab.com/wiki/HomePage.

    TWiki is generally my choice. It runs on the filesystem and has an active community supporting it. Access control and permissions are very easy to setup. Installation takes 5 minutes.
