In case you haven’t look to your Wii today, you’ll notice that the cool blue glowing light is actually… glowing π That’s the Wii saying that you have email. I’ve checked my messages on my Wii and I had an email from Nintendo saying that there was a new Internet Channel version available for download, and if I wanted I could click the update button in the message to update the system. And so I did but the update didn’t work. After the update I checked the Internet Channel and it was still the trial, the one released today is the final version, the one you’ll pay 500 Wii Points if you get after June 2007. Anyway, I deleted the bastard from the Wii Settings menu, went to the Wii Shopping Channel and downloaded the new version. It worked like a charm this time, you can notice the difference immediately because the little animation that appears on the Wii main screen is different from the old Internet Channel (and it doesn’t say trial).
But enough nagging, how’s the new on the Internet Channel? Well, it’s still Opera π but the user interface is more polished that the previous channel, you can configure some features, one of them is the search engine that’s used by default (you can choose Google or Yahoo), the zoom and scroll actions have now some visual hints, when you press B to scroll a nice icon appears with a scroll indication. You can change the site’s layout to a single column layout when you press 2, and you can control the toolbar’s visibility (show/hide or auto-hide). The scrolling is more smooth and the zoom levels seem more crisp than before, still the quality is not that good with a regular RGB cable (I still need a component cable π ).
