Kaweco Sport Piston Fountain Pen

·

Using notebooks and journals isn’t new to me. But having a thing for fountain pens? That came later.

For years, I scribbled in Moleskines and other notebooks with whatever pen I had on hand. Eventually, I gravitated toward gel pens — always loved the smoothness. But somewhere along the way, I fell into fountain pens. And I haven’t looked back.

There’s a quiet kinship between fountain pens and creativity.
Both need to be used, or they dry up.

That’s my trick, really: using the pen often enough not just to keep the ink flowing, but to keep me flowing. If I want to stay creatively alive, the nib needs to move.

Some of my Kaweco collection. Yes, it’s a problem. No, I don’t want help.

Over the past few years, I’ve tried a bunch of fountain pens. But one brand and one particular model, holds a soft spot in my heart:

The Kaweco Sport Piston Fountain Pen.
(Yes, a bit of a mouthful.)

If you don’t know the Kaweco Sport line, they’re small when capped, but become full-sized when posted, ideal for travel, everyday carry, or just… fidgeting with something that feels solid.

Now, I’d already owned a few Sport models, but one day (I honestly can’t remember where) I stumbled across this one. An aluminum-bodied version with a clear ink window, a piston fill system, and a gorgeous onyx black and gold trim.

The Kaweco Sport Piston in all its understated glory.

It looked like something a Victorian era engineer would carry into a steampunk war room. I was obsessed.

Let me be clear. I’m not a pen reviewer. I’m not a stationery influencer.
I’m just someone who writes about what he loves (and sometimes what he hates).

And this pen? I love it.

The writing is smooth, the balance is perfect, and the satin finish feels cold, precise, and luxurious in the hand — that quiet luxury you don’t need to flash around. It just is.

That ink window and gold nib combo…

I even picked up two nibs, one fine and one medium, so I can switch depending on my mood or the kind of page I’m facing.

Was it expensive?
Yes, a bit.
Was I hesitant?
Absolutely.

But the moment I held it, I knew. This was made for me.
If you can grab one of these for under €100, do it. No hesitation.

Masterpiece.

At the end of the day, it’s not just a pen. It’s one of the main reasons I sit down and write when I don’t feel like it…

And that’s worth more than ink.
