Random Sunday Stuff

Long time no post, I know. Balance between personal and professional life is always a time juggle and with the kids on vacation (while I’m not), it gets harder to dedicate some time to write. I’ll just drop a few rants here, some will be developed in individual posts later down the road.

New Laptop, Who Dis?

After a long stretch sizing up the laptop market, I finally pulled the trigger on a new machine. The last laptop I actually bought was a 2008 MacBook Pro. Since then, I’ve mostly been using hand-me-downs from work. My most “recent” one was already a decade old.

At some point, I switched to a MiniPC setup for my desktop needs, which has served me well for the past two years. But I wanted something more portable and powerful to dive deeper into AI/LLMs and photography, so I went hunting for a well-balanced machine that wouldn’t blow past my 2K budget.

Enter the Asus ProArt P16, powered by the shiny new AMD Ryzen AI 9 HX 370. So far, I’m loving it. A dedicated post is coming soon, full of nerdy details.

Logitech Woes

I’m in the market for a new keyboard and mouse. I’ve been loyal to Logitech for years, but the honeymoon is officially over with the MX Keys and MX Master 3.

The paint on the keys is literally chipping off, and the rubber coating on the MX Master 3 is breaking down like it’s been through a nuclear storm. I have to clean it weekly just to keep it from feeling like I grabbed it out of a sticky trap.

I’m not sure if the MX Keys S or Master 3S fixed these issues, but I’m not eager to find out. The MX Master 4 is supposedly on the horizon, but it sounds like a mild redesign at best. I’m keeping an eye on alternatives (Hi Keychron), though replacing these in my setup won’t be easy.

Manga Watch

I’m collecting a few Manga series in Portuguese, but just to give a heads up on the upcoming release of Ghost in the Shell from Distrito Manga.

Book 1 is coming up on September and Book 2 in November!

Mark your calendar if that’s your thing.
